In light of the destruction of Hurricane Ian, our pastors felt a burden to serve our community. Through divine connections, we connected with a 55+ trailer park neighborhood that endured unspeakable loss and dismantling due to the hurricane. We came to discover that because many of the elderly were unable to live in their homes and had no place to go, they created a makeshift shelter in the neighborhood recreation hall.
Inspired by our call to be Jesus’ hands and feet, our pastors united our church, and every Saturday since then we have been serving the neighborhood, doing demolition and construction, removing piles of ruined personal items, and bringing food to the community. Additionally, every Sunday morning, we hold a service in their recreation hall, simultaneous with our service.
We believe and uphold that church is not confined to the four walls of a building, neither is church simply preaching nor singing. We know that the Church is actively being an example of Jesus when we serve, unafraid of getting in the mess of things, but empowered to be like Him-humble, giving, and real.
We have successfully built a structure for displaced persons to live in, and we have changed the face of the neighborhood. All of our efforts have only been possible because we are led by Christ, our leader, and because we have been blessed with a body of people who are willing and eager to serve, give back, sacrifice, and work hard to accomplish the vision of God for our city. We understand we have received an anointing like Nehemiah, to rebuild the Kingdom of God, physically and spiritually.
